Municipal elections likely to be held in Hyderabad in January 2016
Political atmosphere is heating up here in Hyderabad in run up to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation GHMC elections. It is the premier agency which is in charge of the developmental works including infrastructure, roads, lighting, water works etc..
GHMC has under it's jurisdictions whole of the city of Hyderabad. Major political parties in the fray are gearing up for tightly contested elections expected to be held in January.
Some of the parties have already launched their campaign and others are following the suit.
Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, MIM is the major contender in the elections, followed by other parties like Congress, TRS, TDP, BJP,CPI and others.
In the last elections both Congress and MIM shared the Mayor post after aligning and hence Hyderabad saw two mayors in Karthika Reddy from Congress and Majid Hussain from MIM, sharing the duties for Five years.
It's still not clear whether the ruling Telengana Rashta Samithi party of CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has any alliance with any of the other political parties is to be seen.
